Paula Roland is a painter, alternative printmaker, and installation artist known for her innovations in the medium of encaustic (pigmented beeswax). Paula describes her work as an abstract aesthetic that overlays her concern for the natural world and ecology with her personal interior journeys. Paula Roland (MFA, BA) is a life-long artist. Roland received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and the International Encaustic Artists Society among others; Project grants from the Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans; and commissions from the US Department of State for permanent placement in American Embassies in Johannesburg, South Africa and Kampala, Uganda. Fellowships for residencies received include the Santa Fe Art Institute (two), the Virginia Center for Creative Arts (in France and US) and from the Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Paula developed the Encaustic Monotype process, bringing it to awareness and wide popularity in the community of artists working with encaustic. She lives, creates and teaches in Santa Fe, NM.
