I work mostly on the wheel creating vessels that reflect the rugged, earthy terrain that we live in. I love contrasts and many of my pieces will have a defined line, or a precise color, that is counterpoint to a distressed surface or crackle glaze. This is especially obvious in my pots that are fired using the raku technique. Apart from being an adrenaline-inducing technique that requires red-hot vessels to be plunged into combustible materials, this ancient Japanese method of firing produces unique and often unpredictable results. On the cooler - and more subdued side of things - I also love making bowls with hand painted petroglyph motifs that reflect this region's culture and history.
